Early Childhood Education Consultant

This is a consulting position, not an employee. The position is located remotely, and extensive travel is required.

General Summary:

The Early Childhood Education Consultant has knowledge of and experience with implementation of the education and early childhood development portions of the Head Start Program Performance Standards. The ECE Consultant mentors, coaches, and provides training and technical assistance on Head Start management systems in the context of early childhood education, disabilities, and active supervision. This includes working closely with the Local Program Education Manager, center supervisors, and education staff. The ECE Consultant is in communication with and receives direction from the Site Manager, Education Specialist in the Hub, and the Lead when participating on CDI visiting team events such as Expanded Startup or Active Supervision visits.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  1. Assess program systems for effective provision of educational services.

  2. Monitor compliance with the Head Start Program Performance Standards in the area of Education and Early Childhood Development. Provides training and technical assistance based on objectives outlined in individual contracts, and shoulder to shoulder mentoring and support during onsite visit observations.

  3. Work with Head Start staff to:

  • Ensure staff have effective systems for developing and following lesson plans and individualized activities based on children’s screening and ongoing developmental assessment.

  • Ensure staff implement effective transition services of all children into and out of Head Start/Early Head Start, particularly children with developmental delays/disabilities.

  • Ensure program has MOU’s in place with the local early intervention program (Part C) and/or local education agency (Part B) (if appropriate) and local Pre-K programs.

  • Ensure effective system for ongoing monitoring of education systems is in place.

  1. Stay abreast of Head Start/Early Head start and other applicable regulations initiatives on ECLKC and within CDI HS.

  2. Perform other duties as assigned

Knowledge and Education Requirements:

Must have knowledge of developmentally appropriate early childhood education practices in pre-school programs as well as NAEYC best practices. A working knowledge of the recent early brain development research results is important. Knowledge of program planning and supervisory techniques and practices. Thorough knowledge of local child care and early education regulations. Knowledgeable of Head Start Program Performance Standards, with specific knowledge of Education and Early Childhood Development.

  • A baccalaureate or advanced degree in Early Childhood Education;

Or

  • A baccalaureate or advanced degree in any field and coursework* equivalent to a major relating to Early Childhood Education with at least 500 clock hours of experience in an early childhood setting teaching preschool-age children.
